Pilates
It seems like everyone is either doing Pilates, or interested in starting a Pilates exercise program. Indeed, one of the best things about Pilates is that it works so well for a wide range of people. Athletes and dancers love it, as do seniors, women rebounding from pregnancy, and people who are at various stages of physical rehabilitation.
Pilates is a form of exercise, developed by Joseph Pilates, which emphasizes the balanced development of the body through core strength, flexibility, and awareness in order to support efficient, graceful movement.

Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga is initially learnt through the in-depth study of asanas (posture) and pranayama (breath control).
Mr Iyengar has systematised over 200 classical yoga Asanas and 14 different types of Pranayamas (with variations of many of them) from the simple to the incredibly difficult.
These have been structured and categorised so as to allow a beginner to progress surely and safely from basic postures to the most advanced as they gain flexibility, strength and sensitivity in mind, body and spirit.

Historically, men have tended to overtrain certain muscle groups in the weights room, such as the chest, biceps, and rectus abdominis (“six pack” muscles). Either in conjunction with strength training or as a stand-alone fitness regimen, Pilates can be an effective way to counteract the imbalances that arise from overtraining certain muscle groups. You can incorporate it into a general fitness plan that includes both aerobic and traditional strength training exercises alongside a nutritious diet. Pilates builds deep core strength in men and can help reduce muscular imbalances and the associated aches and pains.

Instructor, Denise Vandenberg
Denise has over 30 years’ experience and completed her Pilates Mat and Reformer training 20 years ago. She is a certified Yoga instructor with a continued education in the Iyengar tradition of teaching Yoga. Denise completed her Pilates mat and reformer certification 10 years ago and has been teaching Yoga and Pilates as she feels they provide a high-energy partnership of physical and spiritual exercise techniques to revitalize the mind and body.

Andy Brunt has been practicing Iyengar Yoga, and Mat & Reformer Pilates for over 20 years. A keen sportsman, Andy played soccer for many years, and has trained with both Yoga & Pilates throughout his sports career.
